Job summary

Nexstar Media is seeking a News ENG Photographer in San Diego to shoot and edit daily stories, set up live shots, and deliver video across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.

You’ll collaborate with reporters and editors, thrive on breaking news, and bring creative storytelling to every assignment while maintaining equipment and safety standards.

Qualifications

• At least three years of professional news camera experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Proficiency with ENG field cameras, live trucks, field editing systems, and related equipment.
• Experience editing with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Responsibilities

• Shoot high-quality video and capture natural sound for daily news stories, breaking news, live coverage, and special projects.
• Plan visual coverage with reporters and producers to gather footage and sound for complete, accurate stories.
• Edit video for newscasts and digital platforms using Premiere; match footage to scripts and meet deadlines.
• Set up and operate field equipment for live shots and video feeds; troubleshoot issues and communicate with the control room.
• Organize and archive raw footage and completed stories for future use.
• Maintain cameras, field equipment, and vehicles; complete required logs and paperwork.
• Respond to breaking news and changing schedules while following safety procedures.

What you'll do:

KSWB/FOX 5 and KUSI are looking for a News ENG Photographer to help tell the stories that matter to San Diego. You'll work closely with reporters and producers to shoot and edit daily stories, set up live shots, and deliver video for our broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. You'll also communicate developments from the field to the assignment desk and newsroom.

We're looking for someone who brings creativity to every assignment and takes pride in finding a compelling way to tell each story. The ideal candidate thrives on breaking news, works well with a team, and is always looking to make the next story better.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Shoot high-quality video and capture natural sound for daily news stories, breaking news, live coverage, and special projects.
• Work with reporters and producers to plan visual coverage, develop story ideas, and gather the footage and sound needed to tell complete, accurate, and unbiased stories.
• Edit video for newscasts and digital platforms using Premiere. Match video to scripts, meet deadlines, and follow station editorial and style standards.
• Set up and operate field equipment for live shots and video feeds, including microwave, satellite, and bonded cellular systems. Troubleshoot technical issues and communicate with the control room during broadcasts.
• Organize and archive raw footage and completed stories for future use.
• Maintain assigned cameras, field equipment, and vehicles in good working condition, and complete required logs and paperwork.
• Respond to breaking news and changing schedules while following station safety procedures, particularly in hazardous conditions.
• Work professionally with colleagues and people in the field and stay current with news production tools and practices.

REQUIREMENTS:

• At least three years of professional news camera experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Professional proficiency with ENG field cameras, live trucks, field editing systems, and related equipment. Experience editing with Adobe Premiere Pro is required.
• A valid driver's license and an excellent driving record. Driving a news vehicle to and from assignments is a regular part of the job.
• Strong attention to detail, the ability to follow direction, and sound judgment when making independent decisions under pressure.
• Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, overnight assignments, and travel outside the San Diego market as newsroom needs require.
• FAA Part 107 Drone License is a plus.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment.
• Ability to perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation - $24 hr commensurate with experience and skill level
