Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol.
• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing; resolves identification/requisition issues.
• Performs CLIA-limited testing according to policies and procedures.
• Answers and screens telephone calls; assists with inventory and maintains supplies/equipment.
• Receives, packages, and tracks specimens for transport and testing; responds to additional procurement requests.
• Orders and verifies test requests; documents information for quality assurance; runs quality control checks.
• Performs laboratory result entry in the computer system.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing functions.
• Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
