Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to support outpatient specimen collection. The role operates Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm with duties including venipuncture, specimen transport, and patient registration.

The incumbent will learn hospital systems, maintain records, and participate in training. Requires High School diploma; certificate preferred; less than 1 year experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Less than 1 year of related experience preferred.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification preferred.
• Basic knowledge of phlebotomy and specimen requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepares equipment, verifies patient ID, performs venipuncture and collects specimens.
• Transports blood and specimens to departments.
• Registers patients and enters physician's orders into the hospital computer.
• Provides containers and instructions to outpatients, answers inquiries and takes outpatient orders.
• Maintains a safe and orderly work environment and follows safety procedures for the specimen collection area.
• Keeps accurate records of outpatient blood drawing and specimen processing.
• Works with supervisors to identify, resolve and improve workflow issues.
• Participates in orientation and training related to phlebotomy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
