Job summary

Coquille Valley Hospital in Coquille, OR is seeking a Phlebotomist (Full-time) to perform phlebotomy, process specimens and prepare them for analysis. The role includes using the Laboratory Information System, performing EKGs, and collecting drug screen samples.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Phlebotomist certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with laws and policies.
• Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods.
• Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue per regulations.
• Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture (heel or finger sticks).
• Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the LIS.
• Organize or clean blood-drawing trays ensuring sterile instruments and disposable needles.
• Collect fluid or tissue samples using proper procedures.
• Collect specimens at specified intervals for therapeutic drug level tests.
• Transport specimens from collection sites to laboratories.
• Process blood or other fluids for analysis by medical staff.
• Provide sample analysis results to physicians to aid diagnosis.
• Document specimen routes from collection to diagnosis.
• Explain collection procedures to patients.
• Conduct tests such as blood alcohol, cultures, glucose tolerance, and drug level tests.
• Train other staff in phlebotomy or lab techniques.
