Job summary

Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, ME is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I to perform skin puncture and venipuncture to obtain blood specimens for analysis under supervision of the Laboratory Director/Manager. Duties include data entry, specimen processing, and basic clerical tasks in a fast-paced hospital lab.

The role requires a high school diploma, formal phlebotomy training (or equivalent), BLS certification within 45 days, and at least one year of clinical lab experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of formal phlebotomy training or on‑the‑job training with documented competency.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained.
• Minimum of one year clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages for blood specimens.
• Handle computer data entry, filing, and telephone communications.
• Demonstrate proper phlebotomy technique with newborns to geriatric patients.
• Process specimens for microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank tests.
• Stock routine supplies and maintain cleanliness of storage areas and equipment.
• Assist with specimen pickup/delivery and other department tasks as assigned.
