Lake Charles Memorial Health System seeks a General Lab Phlebotomist to collect blood via skin puncture and venipuncture, urine samples, and specialty collections for the clinical laboratory. The role reports to the Assistant Director of Pathology and supports clerks and lab operations.

Responsibilities include maintaining proper safety practices, meeting turnaround times, and using electronic systems to track specimens. Strong attention to detail and communication skills are essential.

Competenze

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience in a like or similar position preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Ability to communicate well with patients, family, peers and medical personnel.
• Able to read and understand graphs and performance improvement data sheets.

Mansioni

• Use and maintain Mobile devices and Spectralink phones according to policy.
• Utilizes departmental communication platforms.
• Meets blood culture contamination rate < 1.0%, if applicable campus/area. Utilizes blood diversion devices.
• Practices proper hand washing.
• Assists clerks with receiving specimens, answering the phone and other duties when available.
• Meets established turnaround times for STAT, In AM, Timed, and routine orders.
• Prevents infection during venipuncture/skin puncture.
• Utilizes laboratory computer system, collection lists, kiosk system, and pending logs.
• Ensures proper collection for specimen integrity.
• Recognizes anatomic regions and components of the circulatory system.
• Keeps blood drawing trays and equipment clean and organized.
• Performs specialized collection procedures (e.g., crossmatch, glucose tolerance, urine drug screen collection).
• Ensures proper patient identification using two unique identifiers.
• Performs blood collection procedures using skin puncture and venipuncture.
