Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a General Lab Phlebotomist to collect blood and urine samples for testing. The role requires accurate patient identification, adherence to infection control, and proficient use of the laboratory information systems.

Typical duties include specimen collection via capillary and venipuncture, assisting with clerical tasks, and maintaining the integrity of samples and equipment. A high school diploma is required; prior lab experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience in a like or similar position preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Ability to communicate well with patients, family, peers and medical personnel.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples via skin puncture and venipuncture and collect urine and other specimens.
• Maintain proper patient identification with two unique identifiers.
• Use and maintain mobile devices and Spectralink phones per policy.
• Meet established turnaround times for STAT, AM, Timed and routine orders.
• Assist clerks with receiving specimens, answering phones and related duties.
• Practice infection prevention during venipuncture/skin puncture.
• Keep drawing trays and equipment clean and organized.
• Utilize laboratory computer system, collection lists, kiosk systems and logs.
• Perform specialized collections when required (crossmatch, glucose tolerance, urine drug screen, etc.).
