Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a hospital phlebotomist to collect specimens by venipuncture and skin puncture. The role supports patient assessment through accurate specimen collection and strict identification procedures.

Responsibilities include performing specialized collections, maintaining clean equipment, and adhering to infection control practices while using the lab information system.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• One year experience as a hospital phlebotomist or graduate from phlebotomy school.

Responsabilités

• Performs blood collection procedures using skin puncture and venipuncture.
• Performs specimen collections that require a state license.
• Ensures proper patient identification, using two unique identifiers.
• Performs specialized collection procedures i.e. crossmatch blood cultures, glucose tolerance, urine drug screen collection, PKU/T4, therapeutic phlebotomy.
• Keeps blood drawing trays and equipment clean and well organized.
• Recognizes anatomic regions and components of the circulatory system.
• Utilizes proper hand washing.
• Ensure proper collection for specimen integrity.
• Utilizes laboratory computer system, collection lists, and pending logs.
• Practice methods of preventing infection during venipuncture/skin puncture.
