Job summary

Distinctive Home & Health Care is hiring a full-time Phlebotomy Technician for Hickam AFB in Hawaii. The role involves collecting blood samples, identifying patients, labeling specimens, and selecting appropriate collection methods across a diverse patient population.

The ideal candidate will have a phlebotomy certificate with 120 didactic hours, 1040 hours of practical experience, and may hold ASCP or AMT board certification depending on state requirements.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an academic course of phlebotomy that includes 120 didactic hours (or required by state law).
• Experience: 1040 hours as a Phlebotomy Technician within past 3 years; 50 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures.
• Board Certification/registration as determined by ASCP or AMT as specified in the TO.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients.
• Practice proper patient identification, especially on hospital floors.
• Label vials with patient names and dates.
• Decide best method for drawing blood based on patient.
• Centrifuge blood samples where allowed by state regulations.
• Work with a large number of patients of varying ages and health statuses.
• Practice infection control standards at all times.

Degree/Education

• Certificate. Graduate from an academic course of phlebotomy that includes 120 didactic hours (or required by state law).
• Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): Primarily none required but State dependent.
• Experience: Completed 1040 hours as a Phlebotomy Technician within past 3 years. Must have performed 50 successful venipuncture and 10 successful skin punctures
• Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4): Certification/registration as determined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or AMT as specified in the TO.

HCW Duties

The duties for the HCW are as follows:

• Collect blood samples from patients.
• Practice proper patient identification, especially when working on hospital floors.
• Label vials with patient names and dates
• Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
• Centrifuge blood samples, depending on if this is allowed in the state you are working in.
• Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status.
• Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment.
