Job summary

PRETORIAN LABS LLC is seeking a Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor to collect urine and blood specimens, handle processing, and ensure accurate patient data entry in Columbus, OH. The role involves working with specimens that may include infectious materials and requires strict adherence to safety and HIPAA guidelines.

Ideal candidates have at least 3 years as a phlebotomist, a high school diploma, and phlebotomy certification or plans to obtain it within 6 months.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a phlebotomist required (Phlebotomy certification required upon hire or within 6 months of hire).
• Prior experience in a customer service or patient care environment.
• Must have previous experience in a laboratory (clinical) setting.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the collection, processing and shipping of urine specimens and collect urine, blood, and other specimens from patients.
• Properly identify patients and follow procedures for collection of specimens.
• Enter outpatient orders into the Laboratory Information System.
• Register patients, recording demographic, insurance/financial, and clinical data into the Laboratory Information System.
• Process and prepare specimens, maintaining proper specimen identification and sample integrity for testing in various laboratory sections.
• Facilitate drug screens according to protocol.
• Assess and order phlebotomy supplies.
• Handle, package, and ship special cases to reference laboratories.
• Process all laboratory specimens, centrifuge samples, and prepare samples for transport to appropriate departments for testing.
• Separate and create manifests for main campus and reference laboratory testing.
• Perform other related functions as assigned.
• Follow universal precautions and all OSHA standards when handling specimens
• Strictly adhere to HIPAA guidelines
• Maintain neat, clean, orderly patient/work areas
• Demonstrate customer service and compassion when interacting with patients, physicians, and facility staff. Work cooperatively with others and address customer service needs.
