Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of phlebotomy experience; certification within 6 months of hire.
• Experience in customer service or patient care.
• Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Comfortable handling biological specimens with PPE.
• Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate collection, processing and shipping of urine, blood, and other specimens.
• Identify patients and follow specimen collection procedures.
• Enter outpatient orders into the Laboratory Information System.
• Register patients with demographic, insurance/financial, and clinical data in the LIS.
• Process and prepare specimens, maintaining proper identification and integrity for testing.
• Perform drug screens according to protocol.
• Manage phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
• Package and ship specimens to reference laboratories.
• Process specimens, centrifuge and prepare for testing in departments.
• Create manifests for main campus and reference lab testing.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Follow universal precautions and OSHA standards; adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
• Maintain clean, orderly patient/work areas; provide compassionate patient interactions.
• Work cooperatively with staff and address customer service needs.
