Job summary

Southeast Medical Group is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our laboratory team. You will perform venipuncture and capillary collections, verify patient identity, and ensure accurate labeling and transport of specimens.

You will maintain a clean work area, support inventory, and document data in the EHR with care. The role requires phlebotomy certification within 6 months, at least 1 year of experience, and ability to work in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician within 6 months of hire (e.g., CPT from NHA or ASCP).
• Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, venipuncture techniques and infection control practices.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with compassionate patient care.
• Proficiency with medical software and basic computer skills.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Must pass background check, drug screen, and provide immunization proof.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections per protocol to ensure sample integrity and patient comfort.
• Verify patient identity, explain procedures, and obtain informed consent prior to collections.
• Label, process, and transport specimens with proper chain-of-custody documentation.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and manage biohazard/sharps disposal.
• Assist with inventory management of phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
• Enter patient data and test requests into EHR systems accurately.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and lab staff to ensure seamless patient care.
• Participate in QA activities such as proficiency testing and equipment calibration.
• Adhere to all policies including HIPAA, safety and OSHA requirements.
