Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from NHA/ASCP or equivalent within 6 months of hire.
• Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, venipuncture techniques, and infection control practices.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse patient populations.
• Proficiency in using medical software and equipment; basic computer skills required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must pass a background check, drug screening, and provide proof of current immunizations (including hepatitis B).

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections following established protocols for sample integrity and patient comfort.
• Verify patient identity, explain procedures, and obtain informed consent prior to collections.
• Label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory with accurate chain-of-custody documentation.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and proper disposal of biohazard waste.
• Assist with inventory management of phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
• Enter patient data and test requests into the EHR with high accuracy.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and lab techs to ensure seamless patient care.
• Participate in quality assurance activities such as proficiency testing and equipment calibration.
• Adhere to policies including HIPAA and safety rules.
