Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Medical Office Specialist to provide clinical and medical office support to physicians and surgeons. This role includes patient care under supervision of an RN/LPN or MD and administrative duties to ensure quality patient care.

The ideal candidate will perform vital signs, phlebotomy, assist with procedures, manage schedules, and maintain medical records while complying with NYS Nurse Practice Act and institutional policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certification as Medical Assistant from an approved school or two years of experience as a medical assistant.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient flow and registration; resolve flow issues after registration and post-visit processing.
• Set up examination room and instruments per hospital policies and infection control guidelines.
• Take and monitor vital signs; record fetal heart rate when necessary.
• Perform phlebotomy, point-of-care testing and other ordered procedures.
• Assist with procedures (e.g., echocardiogram, biopsy, LEEP, cystoscopy) as needed.
• Maintain supplies, monitor expirations, and dispose per policy.
• Document in medical records and EMR; ensure data integrity.
• Schedule appointments and pre-registration; verify insurance information over the phone or in person.
