Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a phlebotomy specialist to join the ACL Laboratories at Good Samaritan in a full-time, second-shift role. You will collect specimens, supervise daily workflow, train students, and coordinate with physicians and staff to ensure patient safety and timely processing.

Must have a high school diploma and about 3 years of phlebotomy experience; strong computer skills, good communication, and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Typically requires 3 years of experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a group of employees.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good listening and organizational skills.
• Demonstrates a willingness to work a flexible schedule, which may include working an alternate site or shift assignment.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a resource to employees and students, including training and day-to-day work direction.
• Assists with human resource responsibilities such as interviewing and staff development.
• Monitors and coordinates the workflow of the department (specimen collection, processing, ordering).
• Assists in investigation of procedure and performance failures and aids in resolution.
• Documents information for quality assurance/improvement per protocol.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens according to protocol.
• Obtains and sorts specimens, ensures proper labeling and testing readiness.
• May perform limited testing under CLIA guidelines; runs quality control checks.
• Instructs students in phlebotomy and data entry.
• Provide care appropriate to patients' ages.
