Job summary

UnityPoint-St Luke's Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Phlebotomist for ten-hour day shifts from 8:30am to 7:00pm, with rotating weekends and holidays. The role interfaces with the Reference Laboratory and hospital customers, handling registrations, test ordering, and specimen processing in both HIS and LIS systems.

Responsibilities include patient registrations, insurance checks, specimen collection, and ensuring accurate billing and medical necessity documentation in line with CMS guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year work experience preferred.
• OSHA certification if designated to drive; valid driver’s license.
• Fluent English required.
• Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).

Responsibilities

• Provides specimen processing for reference laboratory outreach and inpatients.
• Assists lab outpatients in specimen collection.
• Monitors patients during more complex lab test procedures and notifies providers of results.
• Uses lab systems to ensure correct tests are ordered and documented.
• Performs phlebotomy collection and prepares specimens for transport.
• Communicates results and coordinates with hospital departments and couriers.
