Job summary

Riverview Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to provide general laboratory support, greet patients, and manage test orders and specimen collection across on-site and off-site facilities. Requires familiarity with LIS and clia-waived tasks.

The role includes 32 hours per week with a 10:00 AM–6:30 PM shift, rotating weekends and holidays. Off-site specimen transport may involve using a Riverview vehicle or personal car with proof of insurance.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School Diploma.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy Certificate and/or Associates degree in science and at least one year full-time laboratory training or experience.
• Experience with data entry, medical terminology and customer service or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired.

Responsibilities

• Supports the hospital’s mission through customer-focused service.
• Collects STAT, timed and routine venous and capillary blood specimens from off-site facilities along with hospital inpatients and outpatients in accordance with laboratory SOPs.
• Instructs patients in the proper collection and handling of non-blood specimens.
• Generate and review collection lists and pending logs from the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
• Must use personal vehicle for transporting specimens or Riverview provided vehicle with valid license and insurance.
