Job summary

The role supports training for new staff, adheres to safety protocols, and may serve as a lab receptionist in the outpatient lab.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent preferred.
• One year of full-time phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Certification eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred.
• Proficient in LIS accessioning and specimen labeling.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick, and bleeding time) according to established procedure.
• Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes; determines priority of STAT draws.
• Ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to lab for testing; records workload statistics.
• Assists with training of new employees and student interns; follows all safety policies and procedures.
• May act as a receptionist in the outpatient lab, greets patients, and answers phones; perform daily equipment cleaning and refrigerator temperature checks.
• Performs electrocardiograms as needed; adheres to hospital exposure control plans and safety requirements.
