Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. in Dothan, AL, is seeking a Phlebotomist Nights to join our lab team. You will perform venipuncture and capillary collections, ensure patient identification, and maintain specimen integrity throughout processing.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safety guidelines, sanitation, and infection control protocols.
• Ability to perform blood collection techniques across age groups (neonates to geriatrics).
• Understanding of patient identification, specimen handling, and lab testing requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with patients, staff, and physicians.
• Ability to multitask, stay calm in stressful situations, and adapt to a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in distinguishing sample types and order-of-draw requirements for lab testing.
• High level of accuracy in specimen collection and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection (finger and heel sticks) per procedures.
• Ensures positive patient identification and proper labeling at the bedside.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the lab, maintaining sample integrity.
• Explains procedures to patients, provides reassurance, and addresses concerns.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace.
• Documents patient and specimen information in the lab system.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and completes tasks efficiently.
• Resolves specimen issues, including rejections and recollections.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Adheres to safety and regulatory standards; follows lab procedures.
