Job summary

Maria Parham Health, part of Duke Lifepoint Healthcare, is seeking a Senior Phlebotomist to join our acute care hospital team in Henderson, North Carolina. You will perform venipuncture, collect and process blood specimens, and help ensure accurate lab testing while delivering compassionate patient care.

The role requires a high school diploma, approved phlebotomy training, ASCP or NHA certification, BLS, a valid driver’s license, and at least one year of phlebotomy experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completed an approved nationally accredited training course or program in Phlebotomy required.
  • Certification from ASCP or NHA is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Valid Driver's license required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year phlebotomy experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and collect blood specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Process and prepare specimens, ensuring proper labeling and handling in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Mentor new team members and assist with staffing and scheduling activities.

How you'll contribute

The Senior Phlebotomist plays a critical role in supporting patient care by collecting, processing, and preparing blood and other specimens for laboratory testing in an acute care hospital setting. This position performs venipuncture and specimen collection using age-appropriate techniques, ensures accurate patient identification, and maintains specimen integrity throughout the collection and processing cycle. In addition to direct patient care responsibilities, the Senior Phlebotomist serves as a resource for troubleshooting phlebotomy-related issues, training and mentoring new team members, and assisting with staffing and scheduling activities. The role collaborates closely with laboratory and clinical teams to deliver high-quality diagnostic services while maintaining compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards. Candidates must possess strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.
