Job summary

Interpath Laboratory is seeking a Phlebotomist/Processor to join our team and help ensure accurate specimen collection and handling. The role emphasizes patient interaction, attention to safety, and reliable support for our laboratory operations.

The ideal candidate will have a HS diploma, MA-P certification, and strong communication skills, with phlebotomy experience preferred. This position requires flexibility to cover shifts and maintain high attendance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Washington MA-P (Phlebotomy) certification is required.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication and patient-care skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Providing excellent customer service and answering phones.
  • Performing venipuncture for blood collection and preparing samples for testing.
  • Verifying specimen information and data entry for patient records.
  • Receiving, processing, and packaging samples for referral labs while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Following safety protocols, HIPAA policies, and Medicare rules.

Job description

Join our team as a Phlebotomist/Processor and make a difference every day! We’re looking for someone with great people skills and a caring attitude who enjoys being part of a supportive team. Experience is preferred, but what matters most is your enthusiasm for helping patients and contributing to our shared goals.

Pay: $17.50 - $23.70 Per Hour DOE

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm; Rotating Saturdays 8:30am - 12:30pm

Responsibilities
  • Administrative duties: Providing excellent customer service, answering phones, and monitoring for instrumentation alarms.
  • Technical responsibilities: Performing venipuncture for blood collection, obtaining additional specimen types as required, and preparing all samples for lab testing and screening.
  • Accurate data management: Verifying specimen information, performing data entry, and properly identifying patient information.
  • Specimen handling: Receiving, processing, and packaging samples for referral labs while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Compliance: Following safety protocols, HIPAA policies, Medicare rules, and participating in quality assurance.
  • Flexibility: Covering work shifts at different sites as needed to ensure smooth operations.
  • Reliability: Maintaining consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance to ensure continuity of operations and support for our team and patients.
Education & Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Washington Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy certification (MA-P) required.
Experience
  • Previous on-the-job phlebotomy experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients and team members.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Physical Requirements
  • Laboratory setting with automated equipment emitting ambient sounds.
  • High level of staff interaction in close quarters; must hear alarms to ensure timely response to safety needs.
  • Regular handling of potentially infectious samples, with required protective gear (lab coat, gloves, goggles, face shield).
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, crawl, twist, and walk on uneven surfaces throughout the day.
  • Frequent bending, extended standing, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or overtime as needed.
OSHA Category

This role involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues, with Hepatitis-B vaccination offered to all performing these duties.

Hepatitis Vaccine Policy
  • Employees will be counseled upon hire regarding the vaccination series.
  • Upon the signing of the proper form, the employee will begin their series at the next scheduled vaccination day after hiring.
  • The series will be administered by a nurse at a designated clinic or hospital.
  • Documentation will be kept in the employee's permanent Personnel File.
  • When necessary, the Medical Director will determine follow up protocol.
