Job summary

Independence Health System is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients, with accurate data entry and processing of reports. The role requires adhering to LIS processes, specimen receipt, and timely communication with clinicians.

The position emphasizes proper patient identification, adherence to safety protocols, and coordination of specimen transport and reporting to support diagnosis and treatment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or Higher Level of Education.
• Completion of Phlebotomy Training Program, Medical Assistant Training Program or six (6) months experience performing phlebotomy.
• Knowledge of coding, basic math, and payer/insurance benefits is preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and general office related equipment, such as a fax or copier is preferred.
• Medical terminology and specimen knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates competency in LIS functions by placing orders, monitoring reports, and looking up test codes and collection info.
• Follow standard precautions during venous or capillary phlebotomy.
• Ensure correct patient/specimen identification using two identifiers.
• Process orders and patient specimens; ensure accurate data entry and reporting.

Completion of Phlebotomy Training Program, Medical Assistant Training Program or 6 months phlebotomy experience
