Job summary

Insight is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist to perform core functions in the laboratory's phlebotomy section. You will collect specimens, perform point-of-care testing, and ensure aseptic technique while caring for patients before, during and after collection.

Responsibilities include operating the LIS, documenting quality control, maintaining supplies, assisting in training, and performing pre-analytic tasks such as centrifugation and specimen packaging.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program or documented phlebotomy experience.
• Professional registration preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects specimens for basic procedures and performs point-of-care testing using proper techniques.
• Maintains asepsis and assists in patient care before, during and after collection.
• Determines test combinations and minimum volumes from samples and understands pre-analytic variables.
• Uses LIS to document work and supports quality improvement and customer satisfaction.
• Performs quality control procedures and maintains department policies, safety and infection control.
• Performs difficult collections and manages supplies, re-orders, and equipment maintenance.
• Assists in training new staff and handles pre-analytic tasks like centrifugation and specimen packaging.
• Completes patient registration and documents order changes or demographic updates.
