Job description

Description

Phlebotomist is responsible for clinical laboratory duties, including reception and telephone duties, proficient operation of laboratory equipment including HIS/LIS systems; specimen handling: receiving and processing; prep and shipping of lab specimens for reference laboratories; specimen/patient registration; phlebotomy - collection of blood samples by venipuncture or capillary stick; therapeutic blood collection; swab collection of specific micro samples (per competency); assignment to OP Lab locations; training new staff as assigned.

Additional Site Responsibilities

If assigned to a site where offered: dispatch functions, EKG performance, collection of DOT and non-DOT drug screens, for cause drug screens (HR), and breath alcohol testing (BAT); clinic relief fill-in.

Communication Requirements

Respectful and patient communications (written and verbal) with patients, clients, other lab staff, and caregivers from other departments.

Required Qualifications
  • Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification upon hire.
  • Six (6) months direct experience as a phlebotomist and/or completion of a Phlebotomy program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework/Training: Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy training program/course approved by WA State.
