Job summary

Penn State Health in Hershey, PA is seeking a Part-Time Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients, and to receive other laboratory samples. The role includes data entry into patient information systems and performing bedside glucose testing.

This position requires a High School diploma and at least six months phlebotomy experience or completion of a certified internship. Preferred skills include pediatric collection, phlebotomy certification, CPR, and Spanish

Hours: 5:00a - 9:00a M-F, every other weekend 5-9am and holidays 5:00a - 9:00a

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for collecting blood specimens (phlebotomy) from inpatients and outpatients and receiving other laboratory specimens, i.e., 24 hour urine containers, sputum, stool specimens and splitting of random urine specimens. Enters, verifies, and updates patient demographic and insurance information into various information systems. Responsible for performing and reporting bedside glucose testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Six (6) months phlebotomy experience required OR completion of an internship through a certified training program required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Bedside glucose and pediatric collection experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Certification, general computer skills, CPR and additional language skills (i.e. Spanish) preferred.
