Job summary

St. Mary Medical Center, part of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is seeking a Phlebotomist for a part-time night shift.

The role involves collecting blood samples from inpatients, identifying patients, labeling specimens, and delivering them to the lab promptly. The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or equivalent and Phlebotomy Certification or training, with attention to aseptic technique, inventory management, and accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from inpatients and deliver to the lab promptly.
• Properly identify patients and specimens using approved ID methods.
• Label specimens accurately and maintain proper documentation.
• Perform venipuncture and/or skin puncture with aseptic technique.
• Monitor supplies and assist with inventory and re-ordering as needed.
• Adapt schedule to meet emergency staffing needs and provide courteous service.

St. Mary Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team!

Schedule: Part Time Every other weekend nights

• Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients in a timely manner and delivery to the lab for testing. Working with computers and centrifuge as well as instrument lines for processing blood samples.
• Position requires an experienced, highly-skilled technician who can work with a minimum of supervision. Must be responsible, reliable, dedicated and focused on their duties for prompt and efficient patient care.
• Properly identifies out patients by verbal confirmation and positive identification system.
• Properly identifies and labels patients specimens for Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.
• Properly identifies patients and adequately performs venipunctures and/or skin punctures.
• Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures
• Clearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentation
• Evaluates specimen adequacy Receives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate department
• Monitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering supplies
• Deletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague they spoke with.
• Collates requests, answers the telephone, delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tube Always demonstrates proper telephone etiquette
• Consistently assumes responsibility for calls, correctly answers questions, directs inquiries and takes messages
• Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs Is responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasks
• Collects TIMED and STAT tests within designated time period
• Maintains supplies, carts, workstations in a neat, clean and orderly manner
• Performs other related duties as required
