Job summary

St. Mary Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, seeks a Phlebotomist to join our team on a part-time, every-other-weekend night shift.

You will collect blood samples from inpatients, correctly identify patients, label specimens, and transport them to the laboratory, using venipuncture and aseptic techniques.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and phlebotomy certification or equivalent training, with reliability and teamwork to support prompt patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood samples from inpatients and deliver to the lab in a timely manner.
  • Properly identify patients and specimens using the identification system.
  • Label specimens accurately and maintain proper documentation.
  • Perform venipunctures and/or skin punctures with aseptic technique.
  • Transport specimens to the appropriate department and operate the pneumatic tube system.
  • Maintain supplies and work areas in a clean, orderly manner.
  • Respond to urgent requests and adapt schedule to emergencies.

Description

St. Mary Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team!

Schedule: Part Time Every other weekend nights

  • Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients in a timely manner and delivery to the lab for testing. Working with computers and centrifuge as well as instrument lines for processing blood samples.
  • Position requires an experienced, highly-skilled technician who can work with a minimum of supervision. Must be responsible, reliable, dedicated and focused on their duties for prompt and efficient patient care.
  • Properly identifies out patients by verbal confirmation and positive identification system.
  • Properly identifies and labels patients specimens for Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.
  • Properly identifies patients and adequately performs venipunctures and/or skin punctures.
  • Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures
  • Clearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentation
  • Evaluates specimen adequacy Receives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate department
  • Monitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering supplies
  • Deletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague they spoke with.
  • Collates requests, answers the telephone, delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tube Always demonstrates proper telephone etiquette
  • Consistently assumes responsibility for calls, correctly answers questions, directs inquiries and takes messages
  • Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs Is responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasks
  • Collects TIMED and STAT tests within designated time period
  • Maintains supplies, carts, workstations in a neat, clean and orderly manner
  • Performs other related duties as required
