Job summary

St. Mary Medical Center is seeking a Part-time Phlebotomist to join our team on the Night Shift. The role involves proper patient identification, labeling specimens, and performing venipuncture with aseptic technique.

Responsibilities include processing specimens, maintaining inventory, and ensuring timely collection of TIMED and STAT tests while upholding professional communication and documentation standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/Equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy Certification or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

• Label specimens for Blood Bank testing using positive patient identification.
• Perform venipuncture and skin punctures following aseptic technique.
• Label specimens promptly and document steps clearly.
• Receive and route specimens in the computer and deliver to departments.
• Monitor inventory and reorder supplies as needed.
• Adhere to telephone etiquette and answer calls professionally.
• Collect TIMED and STAT tests within designated timeframes.
• Maintain clean, orderly work areas and equipment.

Duties

• Properly identifies out patients by verbal confirmation and positive identification system.
• Properly identifies and labels patients specimens for Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.
• Properly identifies patients and adequately performs venipunctures and/or skin punctures.
• Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures
• Clearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentation
• Evaluates specimen adequacy Receives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate department
• Monitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering supplies
• Deletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague they spoke with.
• Collates requests, answers the telephone, delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tube Always demonstrates proper telephone etiquette
• Consistently assumes responsibility for calls, correctly answers questions, directs inquiries and takes messages
• Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs Is responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasks
• Collects TIMED and STAT tests within designated time period
• Maintains supplies, carts, workstations in a neat, clean and orderly manner
• Performs other related duties as required
