Phlebotomist II

Part-Time Position; Monday through Friday 5:00am to 8:00am

Overview

Under direct supervision, collects blood samples by performing venipunctures, finger or heel sticks on patients, ensuring the quality of blood samples and prioritizing patient safety and comfort according to established standards and practices. Responsible for processing specimens and delivering them to the appropriate department.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Obtain venous and/or capillary blood specimens following established procedures.
  2. Use a computerized system to log and track specimen collection and patient information.
  3. Operate basic laboratory equipment, such as centrifuges and microscopes.
  4. Communicate effectively with laboratory and medical staff to resolve issues related to specimens, and ensure proper identification, labeling, processing, and storage.
  5. Respond promptly to STAT phlebotomy requests when needed.
  6. Stand for extended periods and walk as necessary during phlebotomy procedures.
  7. Receive and process specimens for testing in various laboratory departments, following established protocols.
  8. Operate centrifuges and separate specimens according to departmental procedures; store specimens properly when required.
  9. Enter patient demographic data into the laboratory computer system, access or create accounts, and avoid duplicate records. Order tests as indicated by physicians on requisitions.
  10. Respond to phone inquiries regarding test results, specimen status, or other questions.
  11. Monitor pending phlebotomy orders and ensure timely completion of collections.
