Job summary

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) seeks an Extra Help Phlebotomist to join on-site teams in Southern Illinois locations, including Springfield and Taylorville. This temporary role is limited to 900 hours and requires phlebotomy duties for patients of all ages.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, order verification, LIS/EMR entry, and coordinating with supervisors to maintain patient care and laboratory workflow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of phlebotomist experience within the last five years.
• Training or certification in phlebotomy or an approved lab tech program.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens from patients of all ages.
• Identify patients and verify lab orders prior to collection.
• Greet patients and assess preparation for testing (e.g., fasting).
• Provide instructions for proper specimen collection and scheduling as needed.
• Review specimens and requests for completeness and accuracy.
• Label and prepare specimens for transport to the lab.
• Enter orders into LIS/EMR and verify patient information.
• Answer inquiries and coordinate with supervisors as needed.
• Support lab workflow and monitor supplies and equipment.
