Job description

STGi is currently seeking a Phlebotomist/Laboratory Technician to provide services at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The general duty of the Phlebotomist is to provide phlebotomy services as well as administrative/clerical support for the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform a full range of phlebotomy duties, including proper venipuncture, finger-stick, and heel-stick procedures using appropriate techniques. Prepare and complete special test-related phlebotomy procedures, ensuring proper patient accessioning, specimen collection, processing, and distribution.
2. Conduct patient in-processing prior to specimen collection, including reviewing paperwork and providing guidance and assistance.
3. Assemble equipment such as tourniquets, needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on the work tray according to test or procedure requirements.
4. Verify patient or donor identity, conduct interviews, take vital signs, and draw blood samples, ensuring proper documentation and patient comfort.
5. If applicable, provide technical oversight and training to ensure invasive procedures are performed safely, hygienically, and efficiently, with minimal discomfort.
6. Perform administrative and clerical procedures related to phlebotomy at the Front Desk, including documenting samples, maintaining supply inventory, and ensuring cleanliness.
7. Provide administrative and clerical support in various clinic areas as needed, such as front desk, exam rooms, and Telehealth.
8. Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures and special requirements for laboratory specimens.
9. Demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of phlebotomy, including techniques for infants and the elderly, and manage patient reactions appropriately.
10. Provide counseling on post-phlebotomy care and manage patient reactions like syncope, vomiting, or unconsciousness.
11. Provide general clerical/administrative support for the unit.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
