Job summary

UPMC Chautuaqua in Jamestown, NY is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our lab team. This full-time role depends on department needs and may require occasional weekends and holidays.

Experience or certification is preferred. The Phlebotomist will perform venipuncture and specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients, and may also handle clerical duties and LIS data entry under supervision of Medical Technologists.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
• Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred.
• NY Mandated Reporter Training due within 90 days of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick per proper patient identification.
• Transport specimens from collection areas to the laboratory following safety procedures.
• Enter demographic information and test orders into the LIS; ensure specimen identity and adequacy.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as applicable.
