Job summary

Amberwell Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood and other specimens with accuracy and empathy. You will explain procedures, verify patient information, and maintain proper labeling and documentation in the patient’s record.

The role requires attention to detail, ability to stay calm with nervous patients, and adherence to safety protocols within a clinical environment. Clinical support across Amberwell facilities is expected.

Qualifications

• Experience: Required: None; Preferred: 1 year in a healthcare clinical setting.
• Education: Required: High school diploma or GED; Preferred: Medical Assistant Program.
• Certification: Required: BLS; Preferred: Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Certification.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients before drawing blood and explain procedures to patients.
• Verify patient information and label samples accurately.
• Update patient data in the organization’s database.
• Calm nervous or frightened patients during blood draws.
• Process specimens for laboratory testing and dispatch to reference labs.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory policies and safety practices.
• Maintain a neat work area and restock supplies daily.
• Resolve unusual test orders by contacting physicians or labs.

JOB DESCRIPTION:Phlebotomists are responsible for obtaining blood specimens and collecting nonblood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing. Phlebotomists have a strong eye for detail, excellent interpersonal skills, proficient verbal and written English skills, and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.Responsibilities for a phlebotomist include but are not limited to:Preparing patients before drawing bloodExplaining blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the processVerifying patient information and labeling blood samples properlyAccurately updating patient information in the organization’s databaseHelping nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood drawsProcesses specimens to prepare them for laboratory testingPrepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testingResolves ambiguous and/or unusual test orders by contacting the physician of the order, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratoryMaintains compliance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures, and safety practices.Keeps work area neat and clean and restocks daily supplies.ABOUT AMBERWELL HEALTH:Amberwell Health is a healthcare system dedicated to improving the health and wellness of the communities we serve, providing compassionate healthcare with clinical excellence.
