Qualifications

Job Summary

Hours: 8:30am - 5 pm (Monday - Friday)

  • Performs other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned, including EKG's and newborn phlebotomy. Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Operates with a moderate level of supervision, identifying and resolving common issues independently. Provide effective training and education to new employees and students as assigned.
  • Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
  • Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
  • May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves specimen, order, and common operational issues within the work area.
  • Provides some training and education to new staff and students.
  • Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Works fluently with computer programs and systems and complies with HIPAA regulations.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Phlebotomy Technician [National Certification] -Generic - HR Only preferred

Experience

Experience in phlebotomy 1-2 years required. Pediatric phlebotomy experienced preferred.

  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills and can manage complex patient collections.
