Job description

Our Client, a Clinical Laboratory company, is looking for a Phlebotomist II for their Itasca, IL location.

Responsibilities:

1. The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
2. Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, perform decontamination, update patient information, etc.
3. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
4. Explain the venipuncture (blood drawing) process and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine, fecal) clearly and courteously.
5. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
6. Understand all physicians' orders fully.
7. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
8. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
9. Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match scripts for 100% accuracy.
10. Package specimens for transport, store samples at required temperatures, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
11. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
12. Attend annual department training sessions.
13. Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results clearly.

Requirements:

1. At least 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience, with pediatric experience a must.
2. Experience performing phlebotomy on all patient types.
3. Proficiency with venipuncture using hard sticks and needles, urine, and thyroid testing.
4. Experience working with pediatric patients.
5. Detail-oriented with substantial experience.
6. Computer skills, including data entry and processing.
7. High School Diploma or GED.
