Job summary

University Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist I to collect blood specimens, process worksheets, and enter orders in the LIS. You will ensure specimen integrity, proper labeling, and timely communication of results to clinical units.

The role supports training of phlebotomy students, participates in competency assessments, and adheres to infection control standards while maintaining quality service for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Successful completion of a phlebotomy course.
• ASCP or equivalent certification; eligibility to sit for exam.
• Must obtain certification within first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection with proper patient identification.
• Maintain specimen integrity and accurate labeling and documentation.
• Enter laboratory orders and review requisitions for accuracy.
• Respond to test-result inquiries from clinical units and staff.
• Train phlebotomy students and assist with competency evaluations.
• Maintain infection control and regulatory standards.
