Job description

Our Client, a Clinical Laboratory company, is looking for a Phlebotomist I for their New Castle, DE location.

Responsibilities:

1. The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
2. Experience in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
3. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
4. Explain the venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
5. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
6. Understand all physicians' orders thoroughly.
7. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
8. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
9. Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script to ensure accuracy.
10. Store specimens at the required temperature, properly label, and follow specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity, including OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings.
11. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Requirements:

1. Minimum of 2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
2. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
3. High School Diploma or GED.
