Job summary

Endeavor Health in Chicago is seeking a Part Time Phlebotomist I at Swedish Hospital to join our laboratory team. You will proficiently collect venipunctures and capillary samples for inpatients and outpatients across all ages, and you will operate the LIS and reference lab menus to support our service areas.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; Phlebotomy certification is preferred and CPR-BLS for Healthcare Provider by the AHA is required.

  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • CPR-BLS certification required by AHA.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently performs venipunctures and capillary collections for all ages.
  • Operates LIS and reference lab menus to support service areas.
  • Prepares and processes blood and body fluid samples per testing requirements.
  • Addresses customer requests for services in a timely manner.
  • Assists in orientation and training of staff in phlebotomy.
  • Identifies problems and notifies supervisory personnel as needed.
  • Participates in Quality Management initiatives and ongoing education.
  • Maintains professional appearance and customer/team-oriented conduct.
  • Handles collection of body fluids and samples including nasal/throat swabs, stool, urine, semen, and breath.
  • Provides phone coverage and excellent customer service for inquiries.

Hourly Pay Range: $19.22 - $27.87 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights

Position: Phlebotomist I
Location: Swedish Hospital
Full Time/Part Time: Part Time, 8 hours
Hours: Monday-Friday, 11am-7:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays

What you will do
  • Proficiently performs accurate venipunctures and capillary specimen collection for all inpatients and outpatients for all age groups.
  • Operates and utilizes the LIS and other available resources including reference lab test menus to appropriately address the needs of the lab service areas and their clientele.
  • Prepares and assists in the processing of blood and body fluid samples per established testing requirements
  • Ensures that all customer requests for services are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Assists in the orientation and training of phlebotomy staff.
  • Applies skills and experience to identify problems as they arise and notifies lead/supervisory personnel as needed.
  • Participates in and promotes adherence to the hospital and departmental Quality Management initiatives.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through active participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Understand the importance of professional appearance and behavior and conducts him/herself in a customer and team-oriented manner

What you will need
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification: Phlebotomy certification preferred and CPR-BLS certification for Healthcare Provider by the AHA required.
  • Experience: Phlebotomy skills, 1 year of experience preferred.
