Phlebotomist - Fulltime

Job Summary
STGi is currently seeking a Phlebotomist to provide services at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The general duty is to provide phlebotomy services as well as administrative/clerical support.
Essential Functions
- Perform a full range of phlebotomy duties, including proper venipuncture, finger‑stick, and heel‑stick procedures, and complete special test‑related phlebotomy procedures. Ensure patient accessioning, specimen collection, processing, and distribution are performed properly.
- Conduct patient in‑processing prior to specimen collection, including review of paperwork and providing guidance and assistance.
- Assemble equipment (tourniquet, needles, disposable containers, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, alcohol) on a work tray according to test requirements.
- Verify or record patient/donor identity, allay fear of procedure, conduct interviews, take vital signs, and draw/test blood samples to screen donors at the blood bank.
- When applicable, provide technical oversight and training to ensure invasive procedures are performed safely and efficiently with minimal discomfort.
- Perform phlebotomy‑related administrative and clerical tasks at the lab’s front desk, fully documenting all samples per SOPs and maintaining inventory and cleanliness.
- Provide non‑phlebotomy administrative support in various clinic areas as needed (front desk, exam rooms, Telehealth, etc.).
- Provide instruction on patient‑centered specimen collection (24‑hour urine, occult blood testing, semen analysis, etc.) and special specimen requirements (fasting, special diets, etc.).
- Demonstrate knowledge of phlebotomy techniques for infants and the elderly and of patient reaction types and appropriate procedures.
- Educate patients on post‑phlebotomy care for complications such as hematomas.
- Coordinate general clerical/administrative support for the unit.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a phlebotomist (preferred).
- Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician from ASCP (PBT‑ASCP) or AMT (RPT‑AMT) preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology for interpreting test requests and results.
- Understanding of patient reaction types (syncope, vomiting, unconsciousness) and corresponding procedures.
- Exceptional diplomatic communication skills and experience handling difficult customer situations.
- Detail oriented with strong multitasking ability.
Required Education
- Retain current CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).
- Successful completion of both:
- Associate degree with the second year including a one‑year laboratory assistant training course in a nationally accredited program.
- One year of study with at least six semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of one of the following:
- Full‑time one‑year training in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant school covering chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology.
- One year of study with six semester hours in chemistry/biology.
- Two years of study with at least 12 semester hours in chemistry/biology related to the specialty.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Moderate physical activity: handling average‑weight objects up to 25 pounds; standing and walking >4 hours/day.
- Typical interior/office work environment.
- Ready to respond to medical emergencies within the clinic, may need to walk quickly to provide assistance.
