Job summary

STGi is seeking a Phlebotomist for their Kingston, New York Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Phlebotomist – Community Based Outpatient Clinic

Location: Kingston, New York

Position Type: Full‑Time/Regular

Job Summary

The general duty of the Phlebotomist is to provide phlebotomy services as well as administrative/clerical support for the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

Essential Functions
  • Perform a full range of phlebotomy duties to include venipuncture, finger‑stick and heel‑stick procedures, and special test‑related phlebotomy procedures, ensuring proper accessioning, specimen collection, processing, and distribution.
  • Conduct patient in‑processing prior to specimen collection, including review of paperwork and providing guidance and assistance.
  • Assemble equipment (tourniquet, needles, disposable containers, gauze, cotton, alcohol) according to test or procedure requirements.
  • Verify or record patient identity, converse with patients to allay fear, conduct interviews, take vital signs, and draw and test blood samples, including at a blood bank.
  • Provide technical oversight and training for invasive procedures such as venipuncture and capillary puncture, ensuring safety and minimizing discomfort.
  • Maintain front‑desk and phlebotomy area inventory, cleanliness, and complete administrative documentation per laboratory standard operating procedures.
  • Provide non‑phlebotomy administrative support in various clinic areas as needed (front desk, exam rooms, Telehealth).
  • Provide instruction on patient‑centered specimen collection (24‑hour urine, occult blood testing, semen analysis) and special collection requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient reactions (syncope, vomiting, unconsciousness) and appropriate procedures, and counsel patients on post‑phlebotomy care.
  • Co‑ordinate general clerical/administrative support for the unit.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Prefer two (2) years of current clinical phlebotomy experience within the last three years.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to understand and communicate test requests and results.
  • Familiarity with patient reaction types (syncope, vomiting, unconsciousness) and appropriate management procedures.
  • Exceptional diplomatic communication skills and experience handling difficult customer situations.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multi‑task.
Required Education
  • Certificate of completion of a Phlebotomy course.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Moderate physical activity, handling average‑weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing/walking for more than four hours per day.
  • Typical interior/office work environment.
  • Require quick response to any medical emergency within the clinic.
