Job summary

Uvalde Memorial Hospital in Uvalde, TX is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory team. This full-time role supports inpatient and outpatient testing with precise blood collection, specimen labeling, and documentation in the EMR.

You will work Monday through Friday 11:00 am to 7:30 pm, provide compassionate patient care, and collaborate with nurses, physicians, and lab staff to ensure timely, accurate diagnostic results.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Phlebotomy program with minimum 80 hours training.
• Current BLS certification for healthcare providers required.
• CPCT/CCMLA/Phlebotomy Technician certifications preferred; within one year if not certified at hire.
• Six months to one year of hospital-based phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Strong venipuncture skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood, swab, urine, and other specimens from inpatient and outpatient populations.
• Perform venipuncture and other collection techniques while prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
• Identify patients and label specimens at the bedside for accuracy.
• Handle, transport, and assist with processing specimens for timely testing.
• Document specimen collections in the EMR.
• Follow infection prevention, PPE, biohazard, and safety protocols.
• Maintain clean phlebotomy equipment, trays, and work areas.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff.
• Provide courteous, respectful, and compassionate service to patients and families.

In This Role, You Will:

• Maintain clean and organized phlebotomy equipment, trays, and work areas.
• Communicate and collaborate with nurses, physicians, laboratory staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Provide courteous, respectful, and compassionate service to every patient and family you encounter.

What We’re Looking For:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a Phlebotomy program with a minimum of 80 hours of training in venipuncture and skin puncture techniques required.
• Current BLS certification for healthcare providers required.
• Phlebotomy Technician, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT), or Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (CCMLA) certification highly preferred. If not certified at hire, one of these certifications must be obtained within one year.
• Six months to one year of hospital-based phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Strong venipuncture skills, including pediatric collection techniques.
• Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to stay focused and compassionate while working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced hospital environment.
