Job summary

UT Health San Antonio seeks a qualified Phlebotomist to join the phlebotomy team. Under limited supervision, you will draw blood, label specimens, and ensure proper handling for laboratory analysis. You will mentor lower level Phlebotomists and lead training efforts across locations.

The role requires flexibility to work between 7:00am-6:00pm as needed and may require covering different clinics with reliable transportation.

• Maintain records of tests performed and samples taken.
• Prepare collection lists and labels ensuring correct tests are collected.
• Process specimens using centrifugation, aliquoting, and labeling per requirements.
• Inventory supplies and requisitions as needed.
• Stock workstation with necessary supplies.
• Provide customer service to patients and providers.
• Provide in-service training and precepts Phlebotomists.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under limited supervision, responsible for providing phlebotomy services for the phlebotomy team. Mentors, trains, and leads lower level Phlebotomists.

Schedule: This position requires flexibility to work between 7:00am-6:00pm as needed.

Must be available to cover at different locations/clinics as needed. Ideal candidates must have reliable transportation in case they're needed at a different clinic.

Responsibilities

• Properly identifies patient according to policy, draws blood samples, labels specimens and sends to laboratory for analysis.
• Maintains records of tests performed and samples taken.
• Generates patient collection lists and labels, ensures the correct test are collected, verifying collection of all specimens, and label appropriately.
• Correctly processes specimens to include centrifugation, aliquoting, and labeling based on specimen requirements.
• Inventories supplies, equipment and requisitions as needed.
• Stocks workstation with necessary supplies.
• Provides customer service to both patients and providers.
• Provides in-service training and precepts Phlebotomists.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or GED is required.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

• Valid Texas driver's license
• Certified Phlebotomist Technologist (CPT) certification is preferred.

Required Skills

• Five (5) years experience drawing blood specimens; or, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved is required.

This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
