Job summary

Concord Hospital is seeking a phlebotomist to collect and label venous and capillary blood specimens for patients at the patient service centers, main hospital, and client sites.

You will perform capillary glucose testing, handle specimens, and complete clerical duties associated with specimen collection.

The role reports to the Supervisor Non-Technical and supports the Laboratory Management Team, with responsibilities including training, QA activities, and use of hospital information systems.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills and clear communication with patients and staff.
• Experience or exposure to phlebotomy procedures and specimen collection.
• Ability to follow established procedures for specimen handling and labeling.
• Awareness of safety and quality standards in a clinical lab setting.
• Ability to train others in phlebotomy techniques and patient handling.
• Familiarity with hospital information systems and data entry processes.
• Commitment to regulatory and organizational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and processes venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients of all ages upon request.
• Provides customer service to patients and stakeholders of the laboratory department.
• Assists in training of phlebotomy students, nursing or laboratory personnel, as directed, in regards to obtaining, handling and transport of specimens, and other areas related to phlebotomy.
• Demonstrates compliance with corporate, departmental and job-specific requirements.
• Identifies problems related to work activities, including involvement in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement efforts within the department.
• Demonstrates proficiency in utilization of the hospital/laboratory information and technology systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsible for handling of all laboratory specimens, performs capillary glucose testing, and completes clerical duties associated with laboratory specimen collection. Reports to the Supervisor Non-Technical and is accountable to all Laboratory Management Team members.

Current Hours

9:30am-5:15pm Mon-Friday

Education

High school or equivalent (GED).

Certification, Registration, and Licensure

None required.

Experience

Prior phlebotomy experience is required.
