Job summary

Concord Hospital Health System is seeking a phlebotomy technician to collect venous and capillary blood samples from patients across the patient service center, main hospital, and client sites. You will perform labeling and handling of specimens and assist with clerical tasks in the laboratory.

Responsibilities include obtaining samples, providing courteous patient service, assisting in training students and staff, and ensuring compliance with laboratory procedures and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy training preferred.
• Experience providing customer service in a clinical setting is a plus.

Summary

Performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, identification, and labeling of venous and capillary blood specimens from patients for health care providers at the patient service center(s), main hospital facility, and various client sites, according to established methods and procedures. Responsible for handling of all laboratory specimens, performs capillary glucose testing, and completes clerical duties associated with laboratory specimen collection. Reports to the Supervisor Non-Technical and is accountable to all Laboratory Management Team members.

6:30am-10:30am Mon-Friday

Education

High school or equivalent (GED).

Certification, Registration, and Licensure

None required.

Experience

Training in phlebotomy procedures preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and processes venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients of all ages upon request.
• Provides customer service to patients and stakeholders of the laboratory department.
• Assists in training of phlebotomy students, nursing or laboratory personnel, as directed, in regards to obtaining, handling and transport of specimens, and other areas related to phlebotomy.
• Demonstrates compliance with corporate, departmental and job-specific requirements.
• Identifies problems related to work activities, including involvement in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement efforts within the department.
• Demonstrates proficiency in utilization of the hospital/laboratory information and technology systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
