Job summary

Northfield Hospital + Clinics is seeking a Phlebotomist under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Technical Supervisor to obtain and prepare specimens for analysis and to perform waived screening tests across neonatal to geriatric patients.

The role supports lab supply inventory, performs clerical duties, and maintains specimen integrity while upholding Universal Precautions and strong teamwork with patients, families, and medical staff. Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must enroll in NH+C RQI program for BLS certification and complete within 90 days.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently in a healthcare setting.
• CPI certification to be completed within six months.

Responsibilities

• Verifies patient identification and test orders.
• Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture and fingerstick using aseptic technique.
• Ensures specimen integrity and meets collection requirements.
• Prepares specimens for laboratory testing and performs/maintains competency for tests.
• Performs quality control and instrument checks.
• Assists with lab supply inventory, stocking and ordering.
• Performs clerical tasks for the laboratory department.
• Adheres to Universal Body Substance Precautions.
