Job Description - Phlebotomist/EKG Tech (2501750)
SUMMARY: This position requires the Phlebotomist/EKG to collect blood from patients, check the quality of blood, and assumes responsibilities for the safety and comfort of patients, following established standards and practices. Receive urines, sputum, stool, etc. for processing. Prepares specimens to be sent to the reference laboratories. Performs routine and STAT EKG’s.
Job Duties & Essential Functions:
· Draws all blood specimens, including micro-specimens.
· Receives urine, sputum, and stool specimens and properly handles such specimens.
· Separates, prepares paperwork and refrigerates all specimens to be sent out to a reference laboratory.
· Responsible for inventory of supplies and keeping area clean and well stocked.
· Responsible for transporting specimens to the laboratory from the Outpatient Department.
· Enters patient orders into the laboratory computer correctly.
· Performs STAT and routine EKG’s as required.
· Follows department infection control and safety procedures.
· Adheres to the Hospital and Laboratory Policy and Procedure Manuals.
· Performs all other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager
· Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations
· Participates in in-service programs
Required Education & Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent education.
· Completion of phlebotomy course or previous phlebotomy experience.
· One-year phlebotomy experiences preferred.
· Certification for phlebotomy preferred.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, office staff and medical providers.The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
· Sufficient mobility to deliver reports and supplies to different areas of the hospital.
· Communicate orally and written.
· Must have fine motor dexterity to complete bimanual/bilateral tasks.
· Ability to stoop, bend, and lift ten (10) lb. objects.
· Exposed to the danger of infection or harm from pathogenic material or chemicals.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBEILH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
