Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to ensure proper procurement of specimens for clinical testing at our Peoria, IL facilities.

The role includes venipuncture, specimen labeling, transport, and processing, with strict adherence to HIPAA and safety policies. Experience with LIS and laboratory workflows is preferred. This position supports inpatient and outpatient services across Carle Health locations.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certification not specified; prior blood collection experience preferred.
• Experience with specimen labeling, transport, and processing.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and timely collection and transport of clinical specimens.
• Identify patients prior to collection using proper procedures.
• Label specimens with initials, date, and time for identification.
• Collect quality specimens with low rejection rates.
• Expedite STAT and high-priority specimens without delay.
• Communicate with nursing staff about delays or questions.
• Operate centrifuge according to SOPs.
• Process and distribute specimens by priority.
• Enter specimen data into LIS/PCS accurately.
