Job summary

UPMC Jameson in New Castle, PA is seeking a Limited Casual Phlebotomist to join our lab team. The role includes venipuncture, heel and fingerstick collections, and professional interaction with laboratory customers. Shifts are primarily Mondays from 6:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

or 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., with potential for additional weekday shifts as needed. No on-call, weekend, or holiday duties are required. Candidates with phlebotomy education or experience are encouraged to apply and contribute

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy education or experience preferred.
• Ability to identify patients and collect specimens (venipuncture, heel, fingerstick).

Responsibilities

• Interact courteously with laboratory customers and respond to inquiries.
• Procure specimens via venipuncture, heel/fingerstick as required; instruct patients.
• Demonstrate dependability and independent judgment to meet department needs.
• Transport specimens to the appropriate lab section following safety procedures.
• Adhere to hospital policies on procedures, safety, and hand hygiene.
• Enter demographic data and test orders into information systems accurately.
• Train and orient new staff and students as applicable.
• Inform staff and pathologists of any unusual incidents.
• May perform arterial puncture following guidelines.
• Monitor supplies and use materials cost-effectively.
