UPMC Physician Services is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to join the Altoona Regional Health Services team. The role includes accurate blood collection from inpatients and outpatients, specimen handling, and related clerical duties under supervision of Medical Technologists.

Daylight shifts are Monday through Friday, with a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for career growth within UPMC.

Formación

• Interpersonal skills for courteous professional interactions with lab customers
• Attention to accuracy in specimen collection and labeling
• Ability to follow established procedures and safety guidelines
• Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) basics is a plus
• Willingness to train others and support team members
• Strong organizational skills and reliability

Responsabilidades

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick; instructs patients on collection procedures as needed.
• Demonstrates dependability and independent judgment to meet department priorities and follow proper authority.
• Specimen collection may occur at off-site locations; transport specimens to the proper lab area following safety procedures.
• Adhere to hospital and laboratory policies on procedures, quality control, safety, and hand hygiene.
• Enter demographic information and test orders into information systems; manage test charges and status.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
• Inform technical staff or pathologists of unusual incidents or issues.
• May perform arterial puncture following strict collection guidelines.
• Monitor and maintain supplies for related functions; use materials cost-effectively.
