Job summary

St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform pediatric phlebotomy and skin puncture with careful patient identification and specimen handling according to department policies.

You will serve as a primary laboratory representative to patients and coordinate collections. The role requires one year of pediatric phlebotomy experience, a High School Diploma or GED, and BLS and phlebotomy certifications with the ability to use hospital information

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of one year in pediatric phlebotomy training/experience in a clinical or laboratory setting is required.
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association must be obtained within 30 days of hire date.
• Phlebotomy certification is required.
• Proficient computer skills and ability to navigate hospital information systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and skin puncture following policy and procedure guidelines.
• Maintains proper patient identification and transport/storage of specimens.
• Provides dispatching or coordinating of collections and performs procedures in a standardized, accurate manner.
• Knowledge of acceptable specimen parameters and critical values.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Job Summary

The Phlebotomist demonstrates skill in pediatric phlebotomy and skin puncture techniques following all patient care and department policy and procedure guidelines. Acts as a primary laboratory representative to the patient. Is responsible for a timely and accurate collection of clinically acceptable specimens with proper identification of all patient information and transporting, processing and storing the laboratory specimens.

• Maintains a working knowledge of both the laboratory and hospital information systems and tools.
• Provides dispatching or coordinating of collections and performs procedures in a standardized, accurate manner.
• Knowledge of the parameters of acceptability and critical values.
• Expected to perform other duties as required or assigned.

#STC

• Performs lab draws, heel sticks, etc.
• Uses appropriate patient identifiers.
• Maintains a working knowledge of both the laboratory and hospital information systems and tools.
• Provides dispatching or coordinating of collections and performs procedures in a standardized, accurate manner.
• Knowledge of the parameters of acceptability and critical values.
• Expected to perform other duties as required or assigned.

Schedule

Mon - Fri 8:30a - 5p or 9a - 5:30p with rotating Saturdays 8a - 12p. The scheduled start and end times require flexibility to meet the needs of the practice.

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma - or - GED

Experience

• A minimum of one year in pediatric phlebotomy training/experience in a clinical or laboratory setting is required.
